In this post I am explaining about important pre-number and number concepts. Concepts like big and small,one and many, more and less are some important pre-number concepts. After introducing Important pre-number concepts we can introduce numbers to children. First we will teach number to number matching and sorting to build discrimination and then we will teach identification of numbers and then sequencing of numbers. After that we can introduce before and after number concepts ( sequencing is the prerequisite for that). Then we can teach counting and number value. Most of our children can easily learn counting and matching in a worksheet but when it comes to number value, they struggle. But understanding the value of each number is very important. Then only we can introduce the bigger and smaller number concepts. I am sharing videos of teaching all these Important concepts in this post.   I created a worksheet with pictures and in the beginning I am giving visual clue, after two pages I faded the visual clue and he was able to complete it.

 In this video I am using the clicker sentence app. He is answering ' Who'  questions in sentence level using this app. When I introduced this app ,I gave some prompts to teach and then I faded the prompts. Actually his ipad was not working from April and we were not able to practice . Yesterday night we got the ipad after repairs and I was eager to check whether he could remember it or not. He was able to recall and do many activities independently. I was very happy and took many videos. This is one among them. Smrithy

 In this video I am sharing how I introduced money identification using the app Avaz. Advaith is nonverbal and he is using Avaz for   communication. I am using Avaz to teach him various concepts. In this video you can see how I customised folders to introduce money concepts. Smrithy

From childhood Addu was struggling to do simple fine motor activities. So I was working step by step and I helped him learn many skills. Stitching is one of them. I will share how I started doing that. We still have a long way to go. Prerequisite for stitching is lacing. I bought some lacing boards and made him practise using them for a long time. He was not able to follow the sequence when it was introduced and he was trying to complete it by putting in some holes randomly. Then I gave verbal prompts to explain, slowly I faded verbal prompts and then provided gestural prompts and then by consistent practice I faded all prompts and he started following the sequence. If you don't have a lacing board,you can take a cardboard piece and punch holes to form a square, circle etc and can use it with thread that you are using for beading or you can use shoe laces.  After that I bought an embroidery set and started with straight lines.  Dear friends, I created this video for one parent who is taking a home program from me. This activity is to improve visual perception skills. In this video I am showing how we can teach our children to copy block patterns, step by step. This activity will help children to make designs by looking at models.  Story telling session!! Addu's speech therapist gave this story during online classes. We were reading it again and again for improving his comprehensive skills and I am using the Avaz keyboard to improve his spellings and typing skills. It is uploaded in my youtube channel too:

  Typing skills are moving to the next level!! In this video I gave sentences in the A4 sheet that is laminated and I presented it in a structured way to make him independent. He got it!! Addu is learning happily and he is proud of himself!!  I customised this activity from his school program to improve his visual perception skills. At the same time it helps him to improve counting skills, attention and focus. WE ARE NOT SUPER MOMS!!Hello all.. Hope you all are doing good. I want to share an experience with you. My elder son Aadi is in 10th std and his pre-boards commenced on January 22nd. He had to go to school to take the exams and so we had to drop and pick him up from his school ( 12 kms from our apartment ). My husband planned to handle that along with his office work and I continued with my online classes  Addu's activities, classes and household work. At that time there was a family emergency in Kerala (our native place) and my husband was confused about his decision regarding travel to Kerala, because he is aware that in the present situation it is very tough for me to manage everything alone in Bangalore. When I started thinking about it, I realised that I wouldn't be able to drop Aadi in the morning because Addu will be sleeping at home and I can't leave him alone for a long time.  Addu typing and reading story using Avaz. Earlier he was typing by looking each alphabet and now he has come a long way and he can type by just looking at the book. I just gave this print out provide by his school and i was surprised to see how nicely he completed it. Non verbal doesnt mean, they cant read.. They can read and comprehend very well with consistent practice!!
