1. What is communication? Communication is a two-way process involving expression of ideas with a communication partner and  he will be able to understand what I am trying to convey. Accordingly, the partner gives a response to what I say or ask. This makes the process complete. For example, I am asking for a pen to my son. He takes it and gives it to me. This is a complete communication. Communication can be verbal or non-verbal or a combination of the two. 2. Types of Communication There are 2 types of communication – verbal and non-verbal. In verbal communication, we use our verbal skills in the form of words and sentences. Non-verbal communication involves using gestures, eye or hand movements and other methods, instead of words. Picture to word matching using Avaz

Dear friends  In this video I am showing how I am training Addu to word level in Avaz. Avaz is his communication tool and he is communicating using pictures with words in Avaz. At present he can communicate for his needs, he can initiate interactions, he can express his feelings and can ask for medicines, he can introduce himself,can send greetings to friends and relatives, he can order food from restuarents etc. Now I am training him for words level. I taught him words to pi ctures matching using structured files, in worksheets during computer skill training programs etc. He is not a rote learner and so he doesn't know spellings. He is associating words using phonics. Now I am introducing words without pictures in Avaz. One folder I created with words and practicing. I started doing dictations too with Avaz keyboard. What is AAC? Why it is important for children with Autism?

Autism is a complex neurological disorder, it affects person’s ability to communicate, difficulties in social interaction and repetitive behaviors .  It's called as autism spectrum disorder as it reflects the wide variation in challenges and strengths possessed by each person with autism.  Difficulties with language and communication are a key feature in the discussion on autism.  Most of the children in spectrum remain non-verbal and some are verbal.  Verbal children can repeat words or talk about their favorite  cartoons, but they also struggle to use their vocabulary for communicating with others.
