My Special Journey with Advaith

Dear Friends,  Good VISUAL PERCEPTUAL SKILLS are important for many everyday skills such as reading,writing,cutting,drawings,completing maths problems dressing etc.Some kids do not show interest for doing the above activities because of the difficulties in visual perception.To develop Visual perceptual skills we have to start with gross motor skills like rolling and passing ball,bean bag balance activities,catching and throwing ball,threading and lacing….all these activities  helps the child to improve eye hand coordination. In this video I am showing”how I developed visual perceptual skills for my son”.These are the basic steps for learning academics and other daily life skills.After achieving all these skills,he improved in all areas of Learning.These are the prerequisites of sight reading,building sentences,using scissors,buttoning....     My son had great difficulty with tripod grip and he was not able to write after his Early Intervention programs.so when he was 8 years old I decided to teach him typing and I taught him step by step. After that I started sharing that videos to help other kids.Lots of parents contacted me for the step by step procedure of typing and so again I am posting it for them. All these steps I did and it helped my son to learn.I hope it will help other kids too. Most important things is CONSISTENCY. We should do step by step consistently. Dear Friends,  In this video I am sharing how I created schedules using Avaz.  For children with autism, anxiety is an issue with their daily life situations. For reducing their anxiety, a visual schedule plays an important role.  Advaith likes to go for Horse riding every day, but riding classes are opening only on weekends. And sometimes they will cancel their sessions due to rain or because of other reasons.Then he was very upset and was communicating for riding. After ef fect was there during weekdays mornings and he was resisting to go to school. So I created a schedule like this in Avaz and was playing it when I am trying to wake him up in the morning. So he was getting up with clear ideas and he was really comfortable and there was no confusion. It really helped us. I tried to make schedules like this, if there are any changes in his routine so it is really helping to reduce his anxiety . So I am sharing this to other parents. Regards Smrithy ...

Adhithya was always ammas boy and was more attached with me.In Advaiths delivery time also Adhithya was with me in hospital. Advaith was a happy child and was always happy with Adhithya. When Advaith diagnosed with Autism, my relatives were telling me that, I was giving full attention to Adhithya and that's why it happened to Advaith. As a mother I was completely lost at that time and I was in a difficult situation. Adhithya was going to UKG, at that time....

Dear Friends, In this video I am sharing ideas about different steps of Sight Reading.I am showing materials and explaining how I moved step by step with Advaith. First step is identification and labelling in each category and then words to picture matching, then I did spellings, then sentence to picture matching and making simple sentences for pictures. Now I am working on sentence level.Actually I did a combination of sight reading and phonics. I hope this video will help other parents to make materials and to work with their children. Dear Friends, Most of our kids have difficulties to answer Yes or No questions.They are just repeating our questions or words,when we are asking .So this way I taught my son the concept of yes or no during table top time and then generalised it with headnodding( because he is not able to talk clearly).After that I noticed that,he is able to express his likes and dislikes by saying ' ya ya' for yes and ' ni ni' for no according to daily life situations.Example,if we are asking,Do you want apple,he is saying yaya. Dear Friends, Today I am sharing with you all,how I am building work skills for my son.I saw lots of kids with various skills but they need continuous prompts to focus and complete their work.Because of the prompt dependency they are not able to work independently after their vocational training also.We are following structured teaching method at home and at school.According to kids understanding level we can keep object, picture or written schedule.In this independent activity time ,we are teaching work skills,so we are keeping Activities,that kids can do independently.But trainer should stand behind and not giving verbal prompts.And one more thing I am doing is a floor time activity,in that I am arranging activities on the floor from left to right and he is completing all Activities from left to right without any supervisor.I hope this will help other parents and kids.. Dear Friends,  Some of the parents contacted me for pre reading activities. So I made this video of ' how to teach colour concepts '.I am using different flash cards. If we are doing lots of matching and sorting with colours, visual discrimination skills will improve and it will help them for making bracelets with various color combinations.In this video Addu is using Avaz for labelling colours. In Avaz I created one folder for colours and using it for labelling. Other materials I made at home and some of them I bought from my friend (who was selling materials, now she is not making). In worksheets also we can do more practice by using colourful printouts.
