My Special Journey with Advaith

  Step 1. I selected some objects that he can identify 100%. Then I explained about the positions and practiced like this.      After 2 years when we planned a holiday trip to Goa I prepared a PPT to give Addu a clear idea about the air travel. From the last 4 months, there is a helmet with him that he bought for him and is always keeping next to him. At night also he is keeping that helmet on his bed. We realised that, he likes the texture of that helmet and that is helps him to reduce his anxiety. But during air travel it will be difficult for us to carry that helmet, so we decided to leave it at home. Monday early morning Addu got up and got ready and he was sitting with the helmet. We told him that we will keep the helmet here but he was not ready to leave it. While seeing his anxious face I thought of letting him carry his helmet. Then he was ready to enter into the cab. We reached in airport and airport was too crowded, but Addu was fine. He was standing in the queue for security check and then they asked why he is carrying that. Achievements of Advaith  Challenges faced: Advaith was diagnosed with ADHD and Autism when he was 2.3 years old. We started early intervention programs when he was 2.4 years old.Initially he  responded well to intervention programs. He was completely nonverbal. After 7 months he started crying throughout the session and was denied enrolment by most of the popular early intervention centers in Bangalore. Then I( Addu's mother)decided to do special education training myself. At that time, Bubbles center for autism ( a special school in Bangalore ) gave admission to Advaith. I completed special education training in the same school. Advaith was crying loudly and not cooperating with his teachers. He was not able to sit and focus on activities. He was not able to perform pre-reading and pre-number activities. He was unable to communicate for his needs. All teachers pointed to what Advaith couldn't do. He was a difficult child at school. പൂജ വെയ്പ്പും വായനയും എല്ലാം കഴിഞ്ഞു ഞാൻ ആലോചിക്കായിരുന്നു എനിക്ക് വന്ന മാറ്റങ്ങളെ പറ്റി. ഇപ്പൊ കണ്ണടച്ച് പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുമ്പോൾ ഒരു കാര്യം മാത്രം ഉള്ളു മനസ്സിൽ "എന്നും സമാധാനവും സന്തോഷവും ജീവിതത്തിൽ നിറഞ്ഞു നിൽക്കണേ എന്ന് ". വേറെ പരാതികൾ ഒന്നും മനസ്സിൽ വരാറില്ല. 11 വർഷം മുൻപ് എന്റെ രണ്ടാമത്തെ മകൻ അദ്വൈത് സംസാരിക്കാൻ വൈകി യപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങൾ ഒരു ഡീറ്റൈൽഡ് ചെക്ക് അപ്പ്‌ ചെയ്തു, അങ്ങനെ അവനു ഓട്ടീസം ആവാനുള്ള ചാൻസ് ഉണ്ടെന്നു ഡോക്ടർ മാർ പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാൻ ആദ്യമായിട്ടാണ് ഓട്ടീസം എന്ന വാക്ക് കേട്ടത്. എനിക്ക് അത് ഉൾക്കൊള്ളാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. അവൻ കുഞ്ഞിലേ കാണാൻ നല്ല ഭംഗിയുള്ള വെളുത്തു തുടുത്ത ഒരു കുഞ്ഞു ആയിരുന്നു. ഇരുന്നതും നടന്നതും ഒക്കെ ശരിയായ സമയത്തു ആയിരുന്നു. ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു പ്രശ്നം അവനു ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്നു ഒരു സൂചന യും ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു. ഞാൻ ആകെ തകർന്നു പോയി. ബാക്കി എല്ലാരും ഇതറിഞ്ഞു ഇത് എന്ത് കൊണ്ട് സംഭവിച്ചു എന്ന് കണ്ടു പിടിക്കാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങി. എല്ലാരും കണ്ടുപിടിച്ചത് ഞാൻ ശരിക്ക് അവനെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ ഇരുന്നിട്ടാണ് ഈ അവസ്ഥ വന്നേ ന്നാണ്. പിന്നേം ഉണ്ടുട്ടോ കാരണങ്ങൾ.... ഞാൻ ഗർഭവസ്ഥയിൽ ചില മരുന്നുകൾ കഴിക്കാഞ്ഞത് ക...

In this post I am explaining about important pre-number and number concepts. Concepts like big and small,one and many, more and less are some important pre-number concepts. After introducing Important pre-number concepts we can introduce numbers to children. First we will teach number to number matching and sorting to build discrimination and then we will teach identification of numbers and then sequencing of numbers. After that we can introduce before and after number concepts ( sequencing is the prerequisite for that). Then we can teach counting and number value. Most of our children can easily learn counting and matching in a worksheet but when it comes to number value, they struggle. But understanding the value of each number is very important.   I created a worksheet with pictures and in the beginning I am giving visual clue, after two pages I faded the visual clue and he was able to complete it.

 In this video I am using the clicker sentence app. He is answering ' Who'  questions in sentence level using this app. When I introduced this app ,I gave some prompts to teach and then I faded the prompts. Actually his ipad was not working from April and we were not able to practice . Yesterday night we got the ipad after repairs and I was eager to check whether he could remember it or not. He was able to recall and do many activities independently. I was very happy and took many videos. This is one among them. Smrithy
